Use either Thoreau’s “Walking” or Abbey’s “Down the River” to criticize or refine one of Cronon’s arguments from “The Trouble with Wilderness; or, Getting Back to the Wrong Nature.” That is, drawn on one of their essays to offer a challenge or extension to one of Cronon’s claims, arguing that it needs to be changed or complicated. If you choose this option, go beyond just saying that Cronon is wrong: your thesis should offer a new and better claim that can replace the claim of his that you are challenging. The paper should be 4-5 double-spaced pages long.
