Where is home? How do we define the term ‘home’? How do we know where home is? How do we define what a refugee is? How do we define what a migrant is? What is home in the two texts? Where is home in the two texts? Where and how to the characters in each book see themselves and where they are? When we go somewhere we go in different ways and we go to different places that are not always the place that we go to. We go to places in our heads, in our hearts in the people around us in our politics in our beliefs and values and in time. When reading you are mainly looking for evidence (in own words) of the nature of the ‘new’ home. Always answer ‘where’ are they really?? How does The UN define what a refugee is? How does The UN define what a migrant is? Why did they leave their ‘homes’? They find migration much more preferable to a life in their country away from the looming threat of violence or in the shadow of an oppressive regime. Immigration is never an easy option: leaving people and places behind always comes at a painful price. Answer the question straight away and throughout the essay. Both book’s PDF is attached.
