Both Jim in “Carnal Knowledge” and the narrator in “Battle Royal” undergo an initiation as defined by Mordecai Marcus in the essay on Blackboard. Which type of initiation do you think each underwent (be specific, using one of Marcus’s three types)? Compare and contrast their initiations, and discuss the epiphanies that each of them had.
