Read the article Doing Difference Candace West; Sarah Fenstermaker Gender and Society, Vol. 9, No. 1. (Feb., 1995), pp. 8-37. and then answer the following questions 1. Describe what West and Fenstermaker mean by “doing difference.” How is this perspective different from (or an expansion of?) West and Zimmerman’s idea of “doing gender”? According to them, why is it necessary to take this more inclusive perspective? 2. Reflect on your own experiences of “doing difference.” What parts of your identity have been the most important in shaping your life experiences? Specifically, think about how your life has been impacted by the privileges you do have and the privileges you do not have.
