This assignment consists of a 3-4 page essay in which you will find an article or book chapter pertaining to some form of tourism, preferably outside of China. The source must connect with anthropology, political science, and/or economics, as you will summarize and critically examine its form and content in relation to the course. The purpose of this assignment is for you to be able to locate and critically examine a scholarly, peer-reviewed source and to link it with its appropriate discipline(s). You will also increase diversity by studying how tourism pertains to another area of the world outside of China and beyond the assigned readings that you will do in class. The paper should mention whether the article/chapter is a primary or secondary source and explain why. You will introduce the topic, explain why you chose it, and mention the search engine used to find it. You will then briefly summarize its content and methods of inquiry, explain why it best pertains to an anthropological, political, and/or economic approach, and how it connects with the concepts discussed in the course. The remainder of the paper should critically examine its form and content. For example, was the article well-written and easy to follow? Did it have a clear objective and focus? Were the methods used to collect data clear, understandable, and reliable? Do you have any suggestions for improving the article/chapter? *Note: The paper should include a title, page numbers, one-inch margins, 12-pt. font, Times New Roman, black ink, double-spacing, with no more than one short direct quote. You should also put the full citation at the end of the paper. The citation is single-spaced and should include the author’s name, date, title, journal, and page numbers if it is an article. For a book chapter, you need to include the author, date, title, city of publication, and publisher. Remember, the paper should be at least 3 full pages in length.
