Week Two Assignment #1- Creating a Spreadsheet for a Grant Proposal Software/WebTools Grant Budget and Proposal (This assignment fulfills these NETS-T, InTASC, and CCTC Standards) SCENARIO: Your school has been awarded a Department of Education Enhancing Education through Technology grant. A portion of the grant money will go specifically to purchase instructional software or online web tools. The teachers with the best grant proposals will receive $10,000 to purchase these materials/licenses for their classrooms. The grant proposal must contain an Excel spreadsheet which lists the software and costs, a written proposal that explains what software would be purchased, why it was chosen and how it would enhance and support learning in your classroom Assignment Instructions This is a two-part assignment: You will use Microsoft Excel to create a budget spreadsheet for the software you want for your classroom within the $10,000 budget. You will use Microsoft Word to write a 1-2 page software proposal that explains what software would be purchased, why it was chosen and how it would enhance and support learning in your classroom. Compile a Software/Online Webtools List Using your textbook and online resources, compile a list of instructional software that you want for your classroom. You must choose software from all three main categories below, but you don’t have to choose software from all of the bullet-pointed sub-categories. Page numbers provide examples of the software types, but you may need to do online research to find more examples in each category. 1. Instructional Software (Chapter 3) drill & practice (pages 79-83) tutorial (pages 83-86) simulations (pages 87-92) instructional games (pages 92-96) problem-solving (pages 96-100) personal learning systems (pages 101-102) 2. Basic Software Suites (Chapter 4) Word processors (pages 112-120) Spreadsheets (pages 121-125) Presentation (pages 125-134) 3. Beyond the Basics (Chapter 5) Materials generators (pages 143-149) Data collection and analysis tools (pages 149-156) Graphics tools (pages 156-160) Planning and organizing tools (pages 160-162) Research and reference tools (pages 162-163) Content-area tools (pages 163-167) Proposal Letter Use Microsoft Word to write a 1-2 page proposal in business letter format to your school principal that includes: The list of chosen software and their categories Explanation of why the software was chosen. Explanation of how the software will enhance and support learning in the classroom. Include brief examples of learning activities that would use the software. ISTE NETS for Students (NETS-S) standards that the software will enable your students to achieve. ISTE NETS for Teachers (NETS-T) standards that you will achieve by using the software for productivity or student learning. Use this Sample Template for Proposal Letter Sample Template for Proposal Letter – Alternative Formats Excel Spreadsheet You will create an Excel spreadsheet budget that lists your chosen software or application (for IOS, Droid or other system), the vendor, the category of software (see items 1-3 above) and the prices. If the software will be used on more than one computer in your classroom, the price should include one copy of the software and then site licenses for the other computers that will use it. Note that many software companies provide educational pricing. List software by the main three categories and then by sub-category, so the type of software is evident. Subtotal the category sections. Demonstrate the use of the SUM function to total rows or columns and section subtotals, and use the Multiply (product) function to multiply more than one of the same item (such as site licenses). Insert lines in your spreadsheet (the gray gridlines will not print lines when the spreadsheet is printed out, so you have to add the lines).
