1. Your general purpose is to inform. Tell the audience about one specific topic of cultural diversity. Below are possible topics to consider. Explain the customs, holidays, traditional cuisine, or dress of a nation where your ancestors came from. Examples: Polish, Asian, German, Cherokee, Greek, Spanish, Albanian, Italian…everything works! Other ideas have included: Cinco de Mayo, El dia de los Muertos, Japanese tea ceremony, Chinese New Year, Quinceanera, Chaldean culture, Geesia, Honduran Garifeena, Kwanzaa, Greek Orthodox Easter Inform your audience about the political/economic trends of another country. 2. You need to do research and include one source of information to provide documentation for your speech. Documentation should be in APA style format (Don’t forget to cite the source in your speech!) The source cannot be a “personal communication.” 3. You need to have a visual aid. Review the text about effective visual aids. This can be artifact, family picture, map, etc., but only 1 visual on the overhead may be used. You cannot flip through slides. 4. Prepare an outline to turn it at the time you present. This outline must include the entire introduction, conclusion, and specific purpose statement. 5. Include reference page.
