Need APA Style 6th edition * Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Due to land shortages, only a short distance between buildings has been allowed since the 1960s. The narrow space between these buildings is called the alley. Hong Kong has more than 1,400 rear lanes. With a total length of about 76km, it is an essential part of the urban fabric and is also the link between the busy main streets and residential buildings. The alley provide the required service lanes for the buildings and their ventilation, sanitation, and escape. However, today, most alley lack proper management and have become spaces with waste, illegal temporary construction..etc. This dissertation attempts to prove the possibility of alley, and the new definition of a rear lane in some local & overseas areas (like Central of Hong Kong ) , to verify whether the new type of rear lane can change the way of life and become a new open space to encourage human interaction.
