Introduction: The evolution and development of Intelligent Building systems has shown a marked acceleration within the past five years and as a result the complexities of the design and integration techniques within building automation systems have become much more than the provision of discrete mechanical and electrical systems. Therefore the role of the building services engineer has become considerably more complex (and interesting) and as a result a more holistic approach in the design, implementation and management of intelligent building systems has become paramount.
