Complete a formal analysis of one of the works of art listed below. Your analysis should be a minimum 2 pages, double-spaced, 12 point font, Times New Roman. This should be saved as a WORD file (Not Wordperfect) and sent to me as an email attachment. This means your file name will end with .doc – NOT .wps. These are also acceptable formats: .pdf, rtf. Note – If you send an unreadable file format, the late work policy will apply. Follow directions! Be sure to cite your sources in APA style. [Find APA style at http://www.apastyle.org/ or http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/.] Your paper will need to follow the format I have provided. Also – please note that the minimum two pages is not including the title and intro information or the references. There should be a minimum of two pages of the description. Please note: the instructions above are not suggestions – you will lose points for any of the above directions that are not followed exactly. Make sure you follow the format example you have been provided, including the way the file needs to be named. Choose your topic from one of the following images (No other images are acceptable for this assignment): You can find these images by searching in Google Images or, possibly, by using the index in your text. Robert Smithson, Plunge Jasper Johns, Target with Four Faces Claude Monet, Lady with a Parasol Chris Ofili, Ohne Titel El Anatsui, Lines that Link Humanity Mary Cassatt, The Letter Anselm Kiefer, Shevirat Ha-Kelim or Breaking of the Vessels ***So, once you have selected the artwork, what do you do? First, find a good reproduction of the artwork online. Take note of all of the website information – you will need to cite that in your essay. ***Next, print out the Formal Analysis list. While you look at the artwork, go through the checklist and take notes about what you see. Provide lots of details. ***Use your notes to write your paper. Please pay attention – your paper should not include the following: the biography of the artist, the history of the artwork, museum critiques of the artwork. You are only writing about what you see. Biographies, etc. will not count toward the two required pages. NOTE – We are using APA format for sources and citations only. An ABSTRACT is not used for short essays such as these. Two reminders: *Your paper should have at least one source – you had to look at the artwork somewhere. Even if it belonged to you and it was hanging in your house, it would still need to be cited. *Your essay file must be named as follows: LastnameFormalAnalysis.doc or LastnameCompareContrast.doc Example: a student named Mary Smith would name her formal analysis SmithFormalAnalysis.doc.
