How the assigned task is described in the course module handbook You must write a report which is 2000 (+/- 10%) words long, including bibliography. The report should be an assessment of the nature of the challenge of one group or movement or phenomenon to liberal democracy. It could be in a country outside the UK as long as it is a liberal democracy. It should be contemporary ie recent. Please check the title with your lecturer beforehand. It should be in this format: To what extent is [X] a challenge to liberal democracy? To what extent is [X] a challenge to liberal democratic values of [Y]? Your assessment must be based on reliable evidence. This evidence could consist of academic texts, government or other NGO reports, media interviews or speeches. You can structure the report with sub-headings if you think it will make it clearer. Deadline for the Report is February 4th 2019. Once you have decide don a topic you should consult all relevant reading on the moodle, not just the essential reading. Further information Reports are a study of a particular problem or issue. They are usually more structured than an essay. However we expect this report to be fairly similar to what you will be used to with an essay and not as structured as scientific reports or those recommending action. The structure we want you to use is 1.Title (must be approved beforehand by lecturer) 2.Introduction: • Extent and parameters of the report; there does not have to be a lengthy justification for instance of why you have chosen that particular movement, party or phenomenon compared with others, but you do need to set out clearly the terms of the question the report will attempt to answer. • Definition of key terms. • How you gathered evidence for the report. 3.The main body of your report divided into sub-headings Analysis of evidence to draw out key points. 4.Conclusion The conclusion should not present new information, only new ideas based on the information already presented.
