Analysis should include discussion of the following elements of the speech: 1. The speech situation—when and why the speech was given. Why was it necessary to give the speech at that time? 2. The actual audience or audiences for the speech. Who were they and what were their characteristics, as far as you can tell? 3. The nature of the audiences as they are indicated in the speech itself. How does the speaker reveal his or her conception of the audience? 4. The speech’s genre (forensic, deliberative, epideictic). 5. The nature of its argument—the enthymemes that are offered by the speaker. 6. How the speaker constructs his or her ethos in the speech. 7. The use of pathos in the speech. 8. The major rhetorical figures in the speech. (See the glossary and the discussion in the Martin text for help with this.- attached) 9. Your assessment of the effectiveness/persuasiveness of the speech. Must submit the complete transcript of the speech as an appendix to your paper.
