You not only need to evaluate the level of development in China in 2016/2017, but you also need to address trends over the last fifty or so years. **Over-arching questions I would like you to consider for this paper as well as subsequent papers: how do you measure development? how do you quantify development? Can you even quantify development? Does economic development=development? Or, is development more complex incorporating both economic AND social/ cultural and political factors? Specific Questions to Address: What have been the trends in growth in China over the last fifty years? What is your China’s current GDP, GNI, and GNI per capita? What is China’s GINI index/ coefficient? What is China’s human development ranking? In what areas does China need improvement? In what areas has China improved over the last few decades? What is the current population? Trends in population? Has China transitioned to democracy? If not, what type of political system does China have? (Here, you simply need to make note. We will be exploring this in greater detail in subsequent papers) How does China compare to other countries in your region and to other developing countries as a whole?
