Design is increasingly becoming commonplace for business with a growing number of companies across a variety of industries seeking ways to become more design-driven. Yet, what it means to be design-driven is often unclear. Moreover, how to practically strengthen design capabilities remains a standing challenge for companies, who either are trying to figure out how to make their first investments in design or finding new ways to strengthen their design capabilities in face of competition. The scope of the pre-assignment is to support you in thinking anew on the meaning of design and the value it may bring to your business. The design is a broad term encompassing a variety of practices (and professions) which often are used differently depending on the market of the functional area in which design operates. The scope of design in business is also changing as designers and design leaders advance their practices to fit new industry and societal developments. As a result, in setting out to strengthen an organization’s design capabilities, being able to pinpoint – and justify – one’s interest forms an important first step in building a more design-driven company culture. In specific, you are asked to analyse and report on: a) how design is understood within your organisation (i.e. for what purposes are design and designers used and contracted internally, how are they integrated in different types of development processes, etc.), and b) what role(s) design plays for your customers and within your industry at large (i.e. what are customers expecting in terms of design, for what purposes are companies in your industry using design, etc.)? In preparing your report, please consider how the use of design may have changed within your organization over time and for what reasons. Moreover, please remember that the impact of design is not always immediately visible – and design is not only executed by professional designers – and frame the scope of your analysis accordingly. As a foundation for your analysis, you are requested to first review the pre-readings for the first day of the module (Storvang et al. 2014; Valencia et al. 2013) and distill a general frame of reference for what you want to capture with your analysis. The summary should be clearly referenced and included at the beginning of your report and presentation. When possible, you are also requested to reflect back on what you find in relation to pre-readings. Please allocate at least one page of the report for the summary of the pre-readings. If you cannot analyse your own organisation, please prepare your report and slide deck in relation to an organisation that you admire for their use of design. I’m work at a health-related company. We provide health check and care elderly. Please write something about it.
