The newspaper analysis, you are asked to build a strong argument for your own opinion. Attached you find an article about an issue that is very much in the news today: PepsiCo’s lawsuit against 4 Indian farmers who allegedly grew a patented strain of potatoes used in its Lay’s crisps without the company’s permission. You need to go beyond this single source and find out more about the case and the public debate that followed. You are asked to write a short opinion piece about the case; much like the opinion pieces you find in news papers, on LinkedIn or on other social media. You are expected to build a strong argument. The paper should approach the issue(s) from multiple theoretical perspectives and conclude convincingly with your point-of-view. There is no need to for academic references. Since this will be an opinion piece you are advised to stay away from too much academic or philosophical jargon. That doesn’t mean you stay away from what you have learned in this class. Pretend you write for a well educated audience, but not well-versed in ethical theory. You can either explain concepts when you use them or paraphrase them.
