After reviewing the article on How to Write a Code of Ethics for Business, and reviewing the PowerPoint’s from chapter 8, do a search for examples of codes of ethics examples from various internet sites for businesses like the one you hope to be managing in the years to come (hotels, restaurants, law enforcement, fashion, etc.), Be sure to look for the same category you think you hope to working for. For example, hotels might be luxury, criminal justice might be forensics, culinary might be product development, fashion might mean retail, etc.!! Find the common themes that all the codes seem to have that you found as well as from these articles and our textbook and then write a code of ethics for your future organization. (Do NOT cut and paste from codes you find on line!!) Your code of ethics should have 6 sections, reflecting the 6 core values on which codes of conduct are based (see power points/textbook for the 6 core values) Please do not get so specific or obvious (such as no stealing from the register, etc.) but rather have broad general statements (Honesty) that reflects each of the 6 core values of your company. Consider whether your final code of ethics is compliance oriented or values oriented (see power points). Your code of ethics should have the 6 key areas with specific conducts and expectations or behaviors that are a blending of what you found in your research as well as your own person input from your area of study. These should be in paragraph form and listed below each core value. Example: Trustworthy: Hospitality is all about guest services and excellence in customer relations. Every employee’s first priority is to develop a guest’s trust in you by delivering nothing less than exceptional service, consideration, and a smile to every guest, every employee, every day.
