This assignment contemplates the student developing the ethical dilemma and corresponding issues from the matters discussed in these assigned readings. Bear in mind that, as we have discussed, an ethical dilemma presents a decision maker with two or more potential adverse or negative outcomes. You would need research and locate or create a fact scenario in which an ethical dilemma and corresponding ethical issues are present that relates to one of the unique ethical issues from which you can choose. I would recommend researching the unique issues, decide whether to focus on ethical issues pertaining to an individual, an organization, or the 21st Century like the Internet, social media and locate or create a scenario that’s linked to one of those subject areas. This assignment is not a paper that reports to the reader about something that has happened in the past. Students are not revealing something that has already occurred and has been resolved. Rather, just as I have provided in the learning activity discussions we have approached in the past few weeks, students are to locate or create a fact scenario that will be resolved by virtue of the approach they take in drafting the assignment. This was necessary because the phone user was no longer alive and Apple does not retain password data for its iPhones to protect the privacy of its iPhone users. Here is the link to just one of many articles on the issue. I will ask rhetorically, what was Apple’s ethical dilemma here? The company has stakeholders (see Week 4 Instructor Notes). What are the concerns that the various stakeholders have in this scenario? The government has once concern. You and I as Apple iPhone users have another concern. Apple’s decision to defy or cooperate with the federal government is an ethical dilemma that will have consequences for the government and Apple iPhone users as well as potential Apple iPhone users. What does Apple do and why?
