This project will be your semester ending project. I have waited to mid-term to release this project so you have enough information under your belt to start and create a solution to this scenario. Directions: Please read the Clearfield Cheese Company Case (Case 1-2) on page 28 of your text. Use this background and information to complete the assignment. You work for The Holland Cheese Company (HCC), in the Netherlands. The HCC has decided to try and sell its cheese in the United States, and western Pennsylvania is one of its target markets. This area is the main market for Clearfield Cheese Company, but you know that Clearfield has been facing competition from Canadian cheese companies that have created transportation strategies at lower costs, and these strategies have made Canadian cheese virtually the same landed cost (LC) as that of Clearfield. You are looking to capitalize on this same strategy. Recent market research shows a strong interest in cheese from Europe, so you are banking on HCC to have strong sales if the LC is low enough to be competitive. Screen Shot 2017-04-17 at 4.38.58 PM.png Your task: Investigate shipping options from HCC’s manufacturing center in Gouda, Netherlands, to Pittsburg, PA. Gouda is not on a major coast so you will need to find real shipping companies that can move a 40x9x9 refrigerated container’s worth of cheese (28,000 pounds of cheese) from point to point (the entire container will be full with the HCC cheese). You may need to have different shipping companies transport on land and sea. Get shipping quotes from these companies. Calculate the cost for each movement of this container and the route it will take. If the cheese production cost is $1.17 per pound, what is the per pound total landed cost (TLC) in the super markets of Pittsburg? You will need to spend quite a bit of time researching which carriers are capable of moving this product. Find actual costs associated with moving the container from point to point. Put together your entire proposal with company names, routes, costs, time in transit, transportation costs, and TLC in a Word document and upload to the assignment link: Transportation Management Project (located in Module 4). The proposal does not have to be giant, and, if you can make it all fit on a couple pages, then that would be even better.
