In one page (single spaced), please answer the following questions (limited to one page). You will be graded on the completeness of your answers and your ability to synthesize your observations from class discussion, class readings and field trips within your response. 1.Explain the science/philosophy behind integrated pest management/ecological weed management. Explain how these approaches can benefit both conventional and organic systems as well as anything in between. 2.Describe at least three tactics and their associated methods for managing weeds, pests and diseases. Include how these strategies contribute to a healthy ecosystem, especially in terms of their impact on natural resources (water, energy, biodiversity, soil) and people. (Hint: review our discussion on natural resources in Week 12.) 3.Recall the field trip to Happy Hollow and Legacy Ridge Farms. For each farm, describe one way that the farmers are using ecological weed management/integrated pest management, and one area that needs improvement, particularly on its impact on natural resources.
