To complete the Personal Brand Assignment, you will create a marketing plan for yourself. What you will submit is a document with 5 headings: Target Market, Product, Price, Place and Promotion. For Target Market, write a paragraph or two describing the type of job and industry or location you think is a good fit. Write about why the field fits your personal characteristics and experience. Include some or all of an actual job description for the kind of job you want. If you are new to the field (a traditional-aged student), what you want is an entry-level position. If you are already working with significant experience, your Target Market is either the next logical promotion, or a job in a different field that your degree will enable you to pursue. For product, describe your qualifications and characteristics from MyPlan. Please don’t include everything in the plan, just discuss the personality profile and the high points of the description. Then insert a table by going to Insert (in Word) and clicking on Table, setting up a 4 across by 5 or 6 down table. Column 1 is the most important characteristics from MyPlan (one per box). Column 2 is things you know, such as your major, and specific courses you have or are taking that are relevant to the job. Column 3 is things you know how to do. It could be computer skills (especially if you have a certificate, like Excel), speaking a second language that is useful for the job, equipment you have operated, even things you have learned through volunteer jobs, campus activities, hobbies, or work. Column 4 is any industries you know something about – either from jobs, family businesses, internships, etc. For price, provide the starting salary range for entry level jobs in the field you are targeting. Are there any other benefits, such as health care, vacation, company car, cell phone allowance, travel, education reimbursement, etc? For place, what are the ways your targeted employer will find you? Job websites for the industry? Networking? Career fairs? Campus placement? Conventions and meetings in your field? For promotion, describe your main selling points to an employer. Then paste an updated resume to the end of this document.
