Each student will complete a marketing management portfolio on two companies. From various sources, students should identify companies facing current marketing issues. The issues could be a problem (e.g. falling sales, a company revising its marketing communications budget, new competition in a marketplace) or a report of marketing activity (launch of a new product, revised pricing strategy, new distribution channel etc). Possible sources for company issues include online resources, the business pages of daily newspapers, Sunday supplements in the Business Post or Times, Magazines and Journals such as Marketing, Fortune, Forbes, Newsweek, etc. as well as industry specific publications such as Checkout, Electronic Business, etc. For each company report, students will make two recommendations for the company addressing the issues around the problem or activity. Your recommendations should be based on your knowledge of the topic and each recommendation should be supported by the key points of at least two academic journal articles. Each report should be approximately 3-5 pages (1.5 spacing) and include the following: • Photocopy of the original article indicating the date and source; • Brief description of marketing problem or activity (maximum half a page); • Your strategic marketing recommendations on the topic with appropriate references to academic theory • Bibliography – Please list in this order – Academic journals, Books, other sources • Harvard referencing
