You are required to watch the movie “Outsourced.” Use your observations/interpretations of the movie “Outsourced” and answer the following questions: A. Watch the movie carefully to see how American and Indian cultural values differ. Compare and contrast the cultural values of Americans and Indians using the Hofstede’s cultural value framework discussed in this course. You must discuss each cultural value (five values listed in the textbook) (Innovation, Transparency, Creativity, Diversity, Collaboration) in detail and support with examples from the movie. Each value must be discussed in a separate subheading and supported with specific movie examples. In addition, you should support your evaluations with (1) website information (for example, use Hofstede website), (2) as many examples from the movie as possible to support the cultural values, and (3) other cites such as articles posted to Bb and news articles. B. Watch the movie carefully to see how the cultural values exhibit themselves in managerial/supervisory practices. Discuss how these cultural value differences may impact managerial practices. For example: leadership styles and human resource management practices such as training or hiring may be totally different between Americans and Indian cultures. You should use 2-4 examples from the movie to support to your writing. C. Lastly, in this course, we discussed the four stages of culture shock, which may occur when one visits a new country: 1. Honeymoon, 2. Irritation and Hostility, 3. Gradual Adjustment and 4. Biculturalism. Discuss a minimum of two examples where Todd exhibited culture shock in each stage. Make sure to name the stage and then provide your specific movie scene examples in each stage. (Hint: the same example should not be included for each stage.) A, B and C should be treated as the major parts in your paper. You should use A, B and C as your major headings. Then, use (1, 2, 3, etc. also, possibly, a, b, c, etc.) to break down the paper to subheadings for the subtopics within parts. Please do not deviate from this format. While this paper is an analysis of the movie based on your personal observations, it is important to also support your observations and comparisons with empirical facts and research findings. If you just rely on your own perceptions, you may be incorrect or inaccurate. First find empirical evidence/support for explaining Indian and American cultural values. For example, are Americans individualist or collectivist? What are Indians? Once you decide on the cultural values or each country, clearly state them in your team paper and then support it with your own movie observations that support the value. 2 Your paper should be no longer than 10 pages including the title page and references. Use 1.5 line spacing with 1-inch margins. It is important that you properly cite information in your paper. Sources can be found through Joyner Library. You should use at least 5-8 external sources (a mixture of at least three library sources and at least 2 internet sources), in addition to your book and lecture notes. Do not cut/paste or copy from any source. Direct quotations are acceptable with proper cites, but the whole paper cannot be direct quotes. Your team paper should be well organized and developed with an introduction and section headings with the necessary topics. Make sure to provide a conclusion to your work.
