Objective: Understand the basic principles in ethical decision-making. The right to physician-assisted suicide (PAS) has become a significant issue in our society. Some states have laws supporting the right to physician-assisted suicide while religious organizations vehemently oppose (PSA). Refer to Box 5-1 on page 77 of your textbook. In your deliberations for this assignment, consider carefully the content on pages 74 and 75 of you textbook. The information on these pages is critical to your discussion on the ethical principles you select to discuss in your paper. This assignment is not about what is physician-assisted suicide but how we make ethical decisions when working with patients/communities on such difficult issues such as physician assisted suicide. Topic 1. Thoroughly define at least 2 ethical principles from Box 5-1, page 77 of your textbook. 2. Discuss how these 2 or more principles are operative in the discussion of PAS. You must demonstrate knowledge of the principles and critical thinking in the application of the principles. Chapter 5 of the textbook contains valuable information in understanding these concepts.
